Remembering Donna Lee Gallo
Long-time Del Ray Artisans member Donna Lee Gallo died peacefully at her home in the early morning of February 11 after a long illness. She was a talented and prolific artist and dear friend to many in our community. Donna specialized in mixed media, frequently incorporating found objects such as nails, fabric, and feathers into her pieces to give them new life. Her work often reflected things she loved—books, music, animals and nature—and was regularly displayed in Del Ray Artisans gallery.
Her story began in the Bronx, NY, home to her beloved Yankees and source of many fond memories. She was part of a big family and spoke lovingly of her siblings, family gatherings, and especially her father, who nurtured her creativity and appreciation of literature and music from a young age. Music was central to Donna's life. She was an avid concert goer, and while she claimed she could not carry a tune, she could recite by memory the lyrics of every song from her favorite artists.
Donna was fiercely proud of her children Steven and Dana. She was a devoted partner and friend to her husband Bill. Over the years they traveled to Egypt, Italy and all of the states needed for Donna to reach the goal of a walk in all 50. She was also the number one fan and adoring guardian of Pepper, their rescue dog and loyal companion.
Donna will be missed by us all.
