Parker was abandoned, covered in tar, wrapped in a sheet under picnic tables in the park next to a rural animal shelter. He was emaciated and dehydrated. Luckily someone heard him literally screaming for help and he was rushed to a local vet. Despite living through something truly horrific, Parker rubbed up against the vet's hands asking for love. The local shelter wasn't equipped to house cats, especially one with Parker's extra needs so they reached out to Homeward Trails. After he was stabilized, Parker came to Homeward Trails where he now is looking for his forever home. He is missing fur where he was shaved to remove the tar and is finally putting on weight and we know he has a bright future ahead of him. PLEASE DONATE any amount today to help us save even more in 2026.

Momma Dog – She was found almost starved to death, having been dumped in the woods and left to die. She was giving literally everything she had to her unborn puppies and then she went into labor. Her depleted body could barely hold on – but she fought so hard. Only with rescue from Homeward Trails could she have a chance for herself and her new family to thrive. And we did it. She was flown by a donated rescue flight to HT and whisked away to a loving foster home where she now knows only warmth, love, food and comfort. She and her pups are our top priority, like every animal we take in. And in 2025, we took in 30 momma dogs and over 150 newborn puppies!! These are families that faced starvation and euthanasia and now will know only loving families. PLEASE DONATE any amount today to help us save even more in 2026.

Improving the Lives of Outdoor Animals– Bear here has lived his life on a chain, sadly watching the birds, squirrels and foxes romp around him. His desire to run, play and romp with them is something he will never get. But in December 2025 we did all we could to improve his life and we will not stop fighting for him. Upon meeting Bear’s owners, we could not convince them to give him to us BUT we were able to get him off his heavy chain. They allowed us to purchase and build him a large outdoor fenced area where he could roll around freely, jump on top of his new dog house and have a fully covered area out of the sun and rain. It’s not perfect but it’s better. It’s something. His suffering is a little bit less and one day, we hope he can come to Homeward Trails to find a proper loving home. We will not stop fighting for him or any of the animals we meet. PLEASE DONATE today to help us improve the lives of thousands of animals in 2026.

We were incredibly busy in 2025 spending a week each month in one of our rural partner communities in Virginia offering free Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) to thousands of outdoor kitties. We are thrilled that we sterilized and vaccinated # of outdoor kitties in 2025, preventing the birth of tens of thousands of kittens and improving the health of these kitties. In our work, we met dozens of kitties with injuries and illnesses that, without our work, would have gone unnoticed and untreated. But we met them, and noticed them and took them to provide lifesaving care and relieve them of pain. Our work in the field for outdoor animals is some of our most rewarding. We love meeting these animals and the people who love them and desperately need us to bring our programs and resources to ensure their bellies are full, their medical needs are met and help them live save and happy lives. . PLEASE DONATE today to help us improve the lives of thousands of animals in 2026.
