Found Near Death on the Side of the Road

Sometimes people are in the right place at the right time. The director of a rural southwestern Virginia shelter was on her way home from work and miraculously saw a cat on the side of the road - struggling in the heat, dehydrated, and emaciated. She pulled over, scooped the dying cat up, held her on her lap, and drove directly to the vet's office. Scruffie was covered in fleas, missing fur, and clearly didn't have a regular food source. The vet worked to get Scruffie stable, but she needed more help. The local shelter isn't equipped to house cats and while they could board Scruffie temporarily at the vet, they didn't have the budget for her to stay longterm. They reached out to Homeward Trails for help. Scruffie has nowhere else to go. She didn't cheat death once to not have the chance to find a home and a family who will keep her safe and show her love.
