I came to The Alexandria Singers the way a lot of people do: I showed up to support a friend, enjoyed the experience immensely, and then that same friend talked me into auditioning. He knew exactly what he was doing. That was fall 2023, and I haven’t looked back since.
At first, I just wanted a social hobby and a community — some ingredients to add to my life. What I didn’t expect was how much this group would rise to the occasion when I needed it. The Singers have been a real source of support during harder seasons, and that’s something I don’t take lightly. Turns out when you mix the right people together, something pretty special can rise.
I’ve also surprised myself with what I’ve taken on. Running the auction taught me more about myself than I expected. Managing and enhancing our ticketing experience, serving on the board, jumping into planning committees for specific productions — none of it was in the original recipe, but all of it has helped me grow. Turns out a “social hobby” can stretch and fold you in the best ways.
And then there’s the baking. I’ve always baked, but the Singers gave that solo hobby somewhere to go. Bringing something made with my own hands to share with this group, or contributing to our auction, just means more when there’s a community on the receiving end. And as a thank you, I’m baking for my donors, too! Whether that’s a little something for everyone or a raffle for one lucky winner to claim a baked good of their choosing. Stay tuned!
I want to see the Alexandria Singers continue to rise and become a vibrant part of Alexandria’s cultural recipe. I want to help sustain the community that has genuinely sustained me. So yes, I’m asking you to give a little dough. This group changes people. It has changed me. 🎶
