Let me be honest with you. I did not walk into the Alexandria Singers with a dream in my heart and a song on my lips. No no no. A FRIEND strongly encouraged me. And by strongly encouraged I mean she was not taking no for an answer. There was no dragging. It was very civilized. She just... left me no choice.
I told myself it was temporary. "Just one rehearsal," I said. "I'll try it and leave," I said. That was a lie. A beautiful, harmonious lie.
Because then the music hit. And I mean HIT. Like that feeling when a Bad Bunny song comes on and your body just MOVES before your brain can say no -- that's what singing with this group feels like. Something in you wakes up that you forgot was sleeping.
And the people? Mira. These people are FAMILY. Chaotic, wonderful, slightly dramatic family. The kind that shows up for you, sings with you, and somehow makes you feel like you belong exactly where you are. Which is wild because again -- I was strongly encouraged to be here. Very strongly.
But here is my real secret. The Alexandria Singers are my therapy. Free of charge. No copay. No waitlist. Just show up, sing your heart out, and leave lighter than you came in. My abuela would call it medicine. She would be right.
So why am I still here? The music fills something in me. The people keep me laughing. And honestly -- that friend who strongly encouraged me? She was right. Don't tell her I said that.
Wepa!!!
