Kelly is Empowering Girls Through Reading

I was The Spitfire Club’s first Board member 9 years ago because I believe every little girl deserves to have a love of reading, a love of self, and a love for people of all communities. I remain on the Board because I have seen this amazing girls’ empowerment organization evolve and grow into something even more powerful over the years.

Of the more than 600 Spitfires we have welcomed into our free programming, 92% report feeling comfortable being themselves, 76% report positive self-esteem (vs. 39% in the general population), and 80% of 4th-5th graders enjoy reading (vs. 22% in the general population). We’ve also distributed 4,500+ books to build home libraries – an important factor in a child’s academic success.
