Theogony, the student newspaper of Alexandria City High School, is raising funds through Spring2Action with a $5,000 goal to support its student journalists and sustain strong, student‑driven reporting. As a Virginia High School League (VHSL) Academic Activity, Theogony is formally connected to the ACHS Athletics Department, and last year the staff earned VHSL’s highest honor, the Trophy Class award, along with superior ratings in every category and five individual recognitions. Dedicated fundraising ensures our newsroom can continue offering meaningful opportunities for student reporters.
This year’s campaign comes at a pivotal moment. Theogony was recently awarded the 2025 National Courage in Student Journalism Award by the Student Press Law Center and the National Scholastic Press Association, one of the highest honors in the country for student journalists. The award recognizes the staff’s extraordinary leadership in defending press freedom, including their five‑month advocacy campaign against restrictive student media policies and their nationally recognized “Voices Unbound” proposal to protect student press rights.
Spring2Action support will help fund travel to the National Student Press Association Convention, where Theogony journalists have repeatedly earned national awards and shared their work on a competitive stage. Community contributions uplift our student reporters, strengthen their ability to speak truth to power, and ensure Theogony continues to thrive as a vital voice for ACHS and Alexandria.
