Higgins is a sweet 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier from rural Virginia. This sweet boy doesn’t understand why he’s suddenly alone. His family, once the center of his world, surrendered him when life got too busy with a new baby and job. Now, he sits in an overcrowded shelter, confused and heartbroken, watching other dogs leave while he’s left behind. The shelter is beyond full and facing heartbreaking decisions, and Higgins' time is running out. Worse yet, he has heartworm—a deadly disease that, without treatment, will slowly rob him of his energy, making it harder to breathe, until one day, his little heart just gives out. Despite it all, Higgins still wags his tail, still looks up at every visitor with hope in his eyes, desperate for someone to save him.
