What was brand new in the late 1780s? The U.S. Constitution, the steam engine, and Lee-Fendall House itself!

Lee-Fendall House Museum - a living textbook of 200 years of local history - is in the midst of a truly historic glow-up.

Will you fuel its next phase during this year's Spring2Action by helping us return our South Parlor to its early Federal era appearance?

-----

In 2023, the Lee-Fendall House Museum invested in a Historic Structures Report, investigating the entire house - from the tops of the chimneys to the mortar in the foundation and even deep inside the walls.

Our goal was to find out how this 240-year-old house has changed over the centuries - what each room looked like and how it was used - as different families moved in and out.

We've been using what we learned to ensure that every room, every wall, every fixture reflects our best historical understanding, while also upgrading our visitor experience. So far that has meant:

  • Full exterior repainting of the house, from a modern bright white to a historically accurate deep burgundy.
  • Redoing our North Parlor, which interprets life at Lee-Fendall during the 1850s, with period-accurate block-printed wallpaper an original Renaissance Revival pattern.
  • Refreshing our lecture room to accomodate more visitors more comfortably and allow high-quality multimedia presentations.

Our next goal, made possible by our 2026 Spring2Action campaign?

We're returning our South Parlor - which reflects Lee-Fendall's first decade, when America was in its infancy and George Washington was the house's most frequent dinner guest - to its most accurate appearance.

Your support will allow us to paper the South Parlor in a period-correct 1780s pattern, using historically accurate materials and methods.

Please donate today to buy us a pack of sandpaper, a can of paste, or a roll of wallpaper. Every dollar is an investment in Lee-Fendall's historic glow-up!
