Building community, one song at a time

Nothing compares to the connection and emotion of singing with a chorus, of hearing all the voices and notes come together to create something bigger than ourselves. 

I loved singing in a choir in high school, but I let life and being “too busy” keep me from committing to music as I left home and began my career. I knew I was missing the community, and the singing, and I finally took the leap to join the Alexandria Singers in September 2025.

In just a short period of time, the effect has been remarkable: every week I feel energized after going to rehearsal, I’ve made new friends, and I’ve met so many wonderful people who are part of this community. I have felt supported, and I have felt connected to people of all ages and backgrounds. Oh and of course, we have made a lot of great music and had a lot of fun too! 

I thought the chorus would be a good way to sing more and meet more people (which it has been), but I didn’t realize how much I needed a creative outlet, how much this would help my mental health and my overall mood from week to week.
