WHAT IS A DONOR ADVISED FUND (DAF)?

Learn how to level up your giving for Spring2ACTion and beyond.

What is a DAF?

A Donor Advised Fund is a vehicle for philanthropic giving, offering maximum flexibility and ease with immediate tax benefits.

Through a DAF you can designate resources for charitable purposes, recommend grants to local, national, or international nonprofits, and invest those resources to grow over time.

How do DAFs work?

Donors can contribute to their Fund at any time, receiving tax deductions on those contributions. When they're ready to make charitable donations, donors recommend grants detailing the nonprofits to support and the grant amounts. Donors can also make grants anonymously, if they'd like additional privacy.

ACT does due diligence on the nonprofits and processes payments; our Donor Portal allows donors to see their giving and grant history, recommend and track grants, and make additional contributions into their Fund.

Using DAFs for Spring2ACTion

See below how to make your Spring2ACTion donations through your Donor Advised Fund.

ACT Fund Holders

Log into ACT’s online Donor Portal to recommend grants to participating nonprofits. Please include “Spring2ACTion 2026” or “S2A 2026” in the notes.

Our team is happy to work with fund holders to coordinate Spring2ACTion grants. You can reach our team directly at 703-739-7778 or development@actforalexandria.org.

Other Fund Holders

Donor Advised Fund Holders at other institutions should log into their designated platform to make grant recommendations directly to the nonprofit organizations they wish to support.

For the receiving organizations to record these contributions as offline donations to their overall fundraising goals, please include “Spring2ACTion 2026” or “S2A 2026” in the notes.
