Make Young People the Agenda

Across Virginia, the policies debated today will shape the future of children and families for years to come.

At Voices for Virginia’s Children, we work to ensure that every young person has access to the supports they need to thrive, from health care and nutrition to strong schools and mental health services.

Give today to help keep young people at the center of public policy.

Why This Moment Matters

Families across Virginia are facing growing uncertainty.

Federal policy changes and funding threats are putting essential programs at risk, including Medicaid, SNAP, and child care supports that help families stay stable. We work hand in hand with policy makers, community members, caregivers, and young people to make sure that these basic need programs are available to families.

At Voices, we bring together policy research, data analysis, community partnerships, and youth leadership to ensure that policymakers understand the real impact of their decisions on young people.

Your support ensures that children and youth are not an afterthought in public policy—they are the priority.

Double your impact! All gifts made to Voices during Spring2ACTion will be MATCHED dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, by a generous grant from The Mason Hirst Foundation.

Who We Are

Our mission is to champion public policies that improve the lives of Virginia’s children.

Founded in 1994, Voices for Virginia’s Children is the commonwealth’s only independent, multi-issue child policy and advocacy organization. We are home to the KIDS COUNT data center for Virginia, which includes more than 200 state- and locality-level indicators on child well-being over time. Using this data and our independent policy research, we determine unmet needs and threats to child well-being, recommend sound policy solutions, provide objective input to policymakers, and educate and mobilize leaders and concerned citizens to support policy initiatives.

We are particularly focused on children whose needs are often overlooked, concentrating our efforts on policies in the areas of early childhood, foster care and adoption, health and mental health, and family economic security.

The impact of our work is felt by children, youth, and families throughout Virginia.
