{page:WorWe've increased the amounts of our scholarships! While our Senior and Alumni scholarships have recently been worth $1,000, this year we're offering $5,000 to Seniors and $2,500 to Alumni.

As a board, we voted to increase the awards to put more resources in the hands of deserving students. College is only getting more expensive, and we want to help in whatever way we can.

Our scholarships reward qualified students in the Project Discovery of Alexandria program who have demonstrated leadership skills, performed well academically, and made positive contributions to their community. They are awarded competitively.

Project Discovery changes lives. I know it sure changed mine. As a student at the formerly known as TC Williams, Project Discovery was my way to navigate the complicated, circuitous route of preparing for, selecting, and applying to a college/university. My parents never attended past high school and while I had family members who had college experience, they weren't there day to day to assist me. Project Discovery helped me narrow my focus on what was important to me in a school, helped me apply for and gave me scholarship opportunities to help pay for my dream, and visit those schools to truly see if I fit into the environment.

As Chairman of the Advisory Board for Project Discovery of Alexandria, I and my fellow board members want to help the current crop of ACHS students have the same opportunities. With Spring2ACTion, we hope to raise funds to give bigger scholarships to help our kids because the cost of education is a far cry from when I graduated. We want to help them to visit campuses outside the two-hour radius of Northern Virginia, because their dreams shouldn't be limited. Those are what we're helping to achieve with your donations. By helping Project Discovery of Alexandria, you are making dreams happen and unlocking doors for these kids that will continue their journey. Please join us in making that possible. Thank you!

Who We Are

An after-school program based at T.C. Williams High School and the Minnie Howard 9th Grade campus, Project Discovery of Alexandria prepares and motivates first generation college-eligible students to access opportunities in higher education. Through workshops on college prep documentation and test taking, seminars on future careers and goal-building, scholarships, and campus visits, Project Discovery provides vital information about how to set and achieve educational stepping stones on the path to further learning. A branch of the larger national Project Discovery program, the club is a joint effort by City of Alexandria staff and supported by the volunteer-run Project Discovery of Alexandria Advisory Board whose mission is to raise funds, promote community involvement and foster positive public relations.
