George Mason Elementary PTA

The funds we raise on this day will be used to fulfill the wish list of needs that our teachers and students have identified for our music program at George Mason Elementary School.  Every single student at George Mason benefits from this amazing program.  All kindergarten through 3rd grade students participate in general music.  95 3rd – 5th graders are in voluntary after-school choir, and 100% of our 4th and 5th grade students participate in either band or orchestra.

This provides all of our students the advantages of music literacy, including:

• Left-side brain and enhanced language development
• Larger growth of neural activity
• Increased coordination and dexterity
• A better understanding of nonverbal communication, and
• An appreciation and gratitude for hard work and respect for process over product

George Mason Elementary School (GMES) is dedicated to
developing students' love of learning, academic excellence, and respect and
appreciation for our community's diversity. The GMES PTA partners with the
principal, teachers, school social workers, staff and families to support the
school community through a variety of programs, such as after school programs,
technology, and additional learning materials for all students. 

For Spring2ACTion 2025, please consider supporting George Mason
Elementary's 5th Grade Band and Orchestra Students as they compete in the
national event, Music in the Parks! Music In the Parks is an educationally-focused music festival that provides school
performing bands and orchestras, like the ones we have at GMES, the opportunity
to learn from exceptional music educators. Music in the Parks mission is to
bring together student musicians and professional adjudicator-clinicians to
provide musical growth, achievement, and recognition for both
individual students and their participating music programs. The event is
culminated by a celebratory awards ceremony where all participants are honored
for their commitment to quality in music education. Our 5th Grade musicians are
excited to perform and compete with their band or orchestra at Music in the
Parks this May, and they have been practicing for this event all year.

 

What is the impact of the George Mason Music Program?
It's a time for community, individuality, adventure, excellence, and
camaraderie for our amazing students! Please plan on donating on April 9th to support our 5th grade Orchestra and Band participating in a trip to
the Music in the Parks competition.  Thank you!

Who We Are

Music is a mainstay at George Mason Elementary School. All kindergarten through 3rd grade students participate in general music, many students participate in a wide variety of ensembles, and 100% of our 4th and 5th grade students take part in either band or orchestra. We have a remarkable program and remarkable musicians, due in large part to the support we receive from our community. On Wednesday, April 10th, George Mason will be participating in Spring2ACTion to help support our amazing musicians.

The funds we raise that day will be used to support 5th grade students’ participation in “Music in the Parks.” This is a one-day festival that our award-winning band and orchestra participate in annually and which provides our students with their first opportunity to perform in a competition. It is a memorable and fun experience for our students.
