Cora Kelly Elementary School PTA

A nonprofit organization

Cora Kelly School is one amazing public elementary school.  Our kids are working so hard, trying to improve their math scores.  They are also focused mightily on reaching grade level or better for reading.  But with an increasing number of our students (nearly 90%) qualifying for free and reduced lunch (an indicator of childhood poverty), and over 40% English Language Learners, there are definitely challenges to learning that our students in particular have to overcome.

Do you think these obstacles stop our students? Not a chance! What is the CK secret?  Our staff and teachers -- the superb women and men who inspire CK kids every day, who come early and stay hours late because they are devoted to helping their students learn.

Where does the CK PTA fit in to all of this?  The PTA does what it can to help CK teachers and show our appreciation by helping provide financially for classroom needs that are increasingly not met bet tax dollars.  And we try as much as possible to support student programs too, like afterschool activities including Crazy8's Math Club, Mad Science, and others. The CK PTA continues to advocate for this great school, and pitch in wherever we can do good.  On April 5, help us Spring2Action to support this great community of teachers and learners.

Cora Kelly School for Math, Science & Technology is an energetic, diverse learning community that aims to instill lifelong passion for knowledge among elementary school students. The Cora Kelly Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is committed to supporting the school community by providing student enrichment and family engagement programs, contributing resources for the school and teachers, and promoting equity and access for all students.

This year, we are raising money to award mini-grants to our hard-working faculty and staff!

We all know that teachers and staff provide a significant amount of resources to their classrooms on their own dime. The Cora Kelly PTA hopes to eliminate that burden to enhance the classroom learning environment. This mini-grant program will impact the entire student body and will create a positive impact in and out of the classroom!

Mini-Grants can include (but are not limited to):

  • Special Program Funding

  • Professional Developmental Opportunities

  • Classroom Supplies

  • Equipment/Books

  • And other creative ideas!

Last year, using Spring2Action funds, teachers were able to request small-scale funding for these "extras" that benefitted the students:

  1. Upcycle Membership for all staff (provides low-cost and free materials for STEM projects across the curriculum)

  2. Shirts and leadership learning activities for our very first student government

  3. PBIS store items to enhance the school mission to reward positive behavior

  4. AVID book series on careers to support lessons on planning for the future

  5. Materials to enhance speech therapy

  6. Bought each 2nd grader a pumpkin on their farm field trip

With your support, we can continue to offer amazing initiatives and activities for all students, families, teachers and staff. Any amount donated is much appreciated and can have a significant impact for our entire school community!

Thank you for your support!!
