For 45 years, Volunteer Alexandria (VolALX) has served as the go-to place for volunteer opportunities in Alexandria. We connect organizations that need help with volunteers who can step up - skilled and unskilled volunteers. Additionally, we organize community service days giving Alexandrians (families, businesses, associations, and individuals) as young as six an opportunity to volunteer. We BUILD nonprofit capacity through volunteer recruitment and management, as well as training.

In 2025, we made over 7,700 connections between people interested in volunteering and our nonprofit partners.

Over 17,700 hours were reported, valued at more than $618,666 in service provided helping our neighbors.

Your donation will help us connect more people to more causes, which means that food pantries will be fully staffed, seniors receive visitors, youth receive mental health support, children get read to, and much more. And Alexandria will be stronger because of YOU!

Volunteers Spread Kindness

"Volunteering makes me happy." In a recent survey, 98% of volunteers agreed that volunteering makes them happy.

Over 90% said that they feel socially more connected after volunteering and 62% stated that volunteering reduced their stress.

Research shows that in addition to boosting happiness, volunteering also reduces stress and anxiety, builds social connections, and provides a sense of purpose. By connecting people to needs in Alexandria, we serve not only local nonprofits, but thousands of volunteers.

Who We Are

Volunteer Alexandria recruits, coordinates, manages, and prepares volunteers to give their time and talent to local nonprofit agencies in need of human capital. The nonprofits we support can then focus on their missions of conquering Alexandria's great community challenges with the assistance of ready, willing, and able volunteers.
