Voices for Virginia's Children

A nonprofit organization

Voices for Virginia’s Children (Voices) is the Commonwealth’s only independent, multi-issue child policy and advocacy organization. We are home to the KIDS COUNT data center for Virginia, which includes more than 300 indicators of child well-being over time.

    Championing positive and
equitable outcomes for young people across the Commonwealth of Virginia is the mission that has fueled Voices for Virginia’s Children over the last 30 years.

We work to change the policies that directly impact young people in Virginia through research, community partnership, and equipping young people, caregivers and practitioners to amplify their voices through advocacy trainings and programs.

This year, as we continue to advocate in the areas that directly impact the quality of life for young people - early care and education, child welfare, health equity, economic security, and mental health - we need your help to create a Virginia that prioritizes the well-being of young people by making young people the agenda in Virginia.

Double your impact! All gifts made to Voices during Spring2ACTion will be MATCHED dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, by a generous grant from the Mason Hirst Foundation.

    Who We Are

Our mission is to champion public policies that improve the lives of Virginia’s children.

Founded in 1994, Voices for Virginia’s Children is the commonwealth’s only independent, multi-issue child policy and advocacy organization. We are home to the KIDS COUNT data center for Virginia, which includes more than 200 state- and locality-level indicators on child well-being over time. Using this data and our independent policy research, we determine unmet needs and threats to child well-being, recommend sound policy solutions, provide objective input to policymakers, and educate and mobilize leaders and concerned citizens to support policy initiatives.

We are particularly focused on children whose needs are often overlooked, concentrating our efforts on policies in the areas of early childhood, foster care and adoption, health and mental health, and family economic security.

The impact of our work is felt by children, youth, and families throughout Virginia.
