With this year's Spring2ACTion campaign, ACC hopes to raise
$10,000 in celebration of 10 wonderful years of music-making in Alexandria!
The Alexandria Children's Chorus (ACC) is a community choir for children in kindergarten through 6th grade. Proud to be Alexandria’s only children’s community chorus, the ACC was founded in 2015 as a 501(c)3 non-profit and originally called The Del Ray Kinderchoir. At the core of ACC is the belief that every child can sing and that singing is a foundation for a healthy life.
Through weekly rehearsals across three choirs, singers receive high-quality music education focused on healthy vocal technique, strong musicianship, increased music literacy, melodic and rhythmic improvisation skills, and diverse, age-appropriate repertoire, such as American and international folk music and classical repertoire. Through our program, we provide an opportunity for Alexandria youth to:
- Experience the joy of singing in a non-competitive environment, while striving for musical excellence
- Develop and strengthen fundamental musicianship skills
- Enrich the community around them through performance
Access and inclusivity are central to ACC's mission
No auditions are required, removing a common barrier to participation and allowing children of all musical backgrounds and skill levels to take part. Tuition is kept affordable, with scholarships and payment plans ensuring financial need does not prevent participation.
Performance is a key pillar of ACC’s programming
ACC has renewed its focus on collaboration and community engagement while celebrating its 10th anniversary. Highlights include:
- A celebratory 10th anniversary concert in March 2026 featuring our founding director, Kay Sidahmed, including the world premiere of A Simple Song, a newly commissioned work by composer Kara Stacy Bedwell
- Participation in the City of Alexandria’s 53rd Annual MLK Jr. Memorial Program in January 2026
- World premiere of When I Sing, by Tom Shelton, alongside the Alexandria Choral Society in a collaborative concert in October 2025
- Participation in the inaugural city-wide choral festival, One Voice Alexandria, which featured over 400 Alexandrian singers from across 8 choirs performing together on one stage in May 2025
- Annual Spring & Fall concerts and community service performances at Del Ray’s Art on the Avenue and Christmas Tree Lighting
- Performances at Paul Spring Retirement Community in December 2025 and February 2026, including performances for their memory care patients
With your Spring2Action support, ACC will be able to continue to offer a well-rounded and high-quality music education to Alexandria youth at low cost. Your donations will help ACC with necessary operating costs such ass rehearsal/performance venue costs, compensation for our highly effective staff, music, engaging marketing materials, and more.
