American Horticultural Society at River Farm

River Farm is a place where our community comes to connect with the natural world.

Throughout the year, thousands of visitors walk its gardens, children explore both outdoors and in our Children’s Nature Library and Reading Room, and families gather along the banks of the Potomac River to take in the view.

What many don’t see is the care and dedication required to keep River Farm welcoming and thriving.

Every path that’s walked, every garden bed in bloom, and every space where a child pauses to explore is the result of ongoing stewardship. Maintaining these 25 acres takes daily work, including:

• Caring for seasonal plantings and garden beds 
• Preserving trees, landscapes, and natural habitats 
• Maintaining pathways, facilities, and gathering spaces 
• Supporting hands-on learning for visitors
