Children in crisis need a safe place to get help, heal, and move forward after an allegation of abuse. 

Adults need practical, evidence-based tools so that they are empowered to protect children from abuse.

Families thrive when there are strong links and easy access to early childhood and abuse prevention services in their communities. 

"Not coming here," says a former Program participant, "[my son] probably wouldn't have been able to reach the minimum goals for getting into preschool. There's no price for what he's been able to accomplish. For me, it's inspiring."

It is our VISION, that ALL children in Alexandria enjoy a safe and happy childhood free from abuse.

The Center for Alexandria’s Children is working to end child abuse and implement programs that strengthen families so they can Celebrate Childhood.

About Our ​Program Services:

• Intervention: We are a nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Center. We provide a safe, trauma-informed space for children affected by abuse. Through forensic interviews and a collaborative team approach, we ensure support, minimize trauma and strengthen cases to hold offenders accountable. 


• Prevention: We host and facilitate eleven weekly Learn&PlayGroups ™ and monthly Pop-Up Learn&PlayGroups™ for parents and caregivers with their children ages 0-5 at areas in the city identified as at-risk.


• Education: We offer certified trainings, based on Stewards of Children’s Darkness To Light program, which teaches how to mitigate and prevent child sexual abuse. We also offer a modified training for adults a part of the Learn&PlayGroup program called Healthy Touch.


• Crisis Provisions: Through ALX Closet, we provide needed clothing and toiletries and are committed to coordinate through partnerships with the city’s agencies and other organizations to serve children and families with resources they need​.

Who We Are

The Center for Alexandria’s Children offers a child-friendly facility with specialized and trained staff to support children and families as they share their stories of abuse and move through the process of investigation, prosecution and treatment. We also facilitate specialized parent/child playgroups to bolster protective factors that make families stronger and children safer. Through a specially-designed curriculum based on weekly themes, our experienced facilitators connect parents and children, along with their neighbors and community, through developmentally appropriate, play-based learning. Additionally, the expert staff at the Center for Alexandria’s Children provides free training and resources to keep Alexandria’s kids safe.

The Center for Alexandria’s Children is the only safe place for children and families to come for help, protection and connection. Thank you for your support! It ensures that we are able to meet the needs of children and families in the City of Alexandria.
