Our History

Campagna’s commitment to children, teens, and adults in our city has never wavered. From being granted a charter to operate in 1945 as the Alexandria YWCA, to flourishing under the legendary direction of Elizabeth Anne Campagna, to delivering the city’s Head Start services for over fifty years, to offering so many other programs and local events, our priority has always been the same: responding to the evolving needs of our community. In fact, you might have been a part of it—Campagna has always been powered by passionate community members, from Junior Friends to Supporting Friends to members of our Board and other volunteer teachers, mentors, and contributors to our programs. Now, in 2025, we need your help to maintain our vital educational and social development programming and to build a stronger future for Alexandria.
