BHCP is raising $8,000 to support the Suzanne Nealon Early Intervention Fund.

Established in memory of former BHCP teacher and parent Suzanne Nealon, this fund honors her deep commitment to neurodiversity and inclusive early childhood education. Your donation helps us continue our vital work of supporting every child at BHCP by providing our teachers and families with early intervention resources and expertise. 

Why It Matters

Funds raised will directly support our free social groups, designed and guided by a Licensed Speech & Language Pathologist to help children develop and strengthen critical social-emotional skills.

These groups give children the opportunity to:

•  Play cooperatively and learn to navigate conflict

• Develop language and communication skills

• Express emotions and manage big feelings

• Build confidence in group settings, preparing for kindergarten and beyond

These experiences are essential for children who benefit from additional support, and we are committed to offering them at no cost to families.

 Who We Are

Founded in 1939, BHCP is the oldest cooperative preschool in Virginia, providing half-day classes for children aged 2 - 5 years. Our program is inspired by the Reggio-Emilia Approach to early childhood education.

We strongly believe every child is capable, creative, and full of curiosity. In collaboration with our families, we foster children’s desire to explore the world, build relationships, and express themselves through the Hundred Languages of Children in our inviting learning environment indoors and our natural playground outdoors.  We welcome families and employees of all races, faiths, ethnicities, and family structures, cultivating an inclusive and supportive community where children, families, and educators grow side by side.
