Alexandria Celebrates Women (ACW) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) with a two-fold mission: to raise money for the Alexandria Domestic Violence Safehouse and recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Alexandria, Virginia’s women of the past, present and future.

All donations through Spring2ACTion will support the Alexandria Domestic Violence Safehouse. The Alexandria Domestic Violence Program and Sexual Assault Center offers support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, including crisis intervention and emotional support; advocacy with medical, police, and court systems. Your gift today will make a positive difference!

One hundred percent of our funds raised during Spring2ACTion goes toward helping our families move from the shelter to independent living. In this area, that often requires a deposit of two months’ rent, which typically tops $4,000. Seriously, who has cash like that?

The stories carried by the women in our shelter are ones of struggle and ultimate triumph:

  • A young adult left high school because of significant trauma, including family violence and sexual abuse. With the help of ACW funds, she enrolled in GED classes and bought the books and other materials she needed to succeed. She is now close to completing her GED, an achievement that has renewed her confidence and opened new possibilities for her future!
  • A single mother, “Maria,” worked part-time and built a fragile but functioning life for her and her children. Then, without warning, their father stopped paying for after-school care. With no one to watch her kids, Maria had no choice but to cut her already short work hours. Less work. Less income. A family teetering on the edge. With the assistance of ACW funding for the emergency childcare assistance, Maria returned to her full schedule, kept her job, and kept her family stable.
  • “Sandy” did everything a good mother does – working, sacrificing, making sure her three children had what they needed for school. Mounting expenses like graduation fees, exam costs, and required documents couldn't wait, but neither could rent. Eviction for her and her family loomed in the distance. Working part-time, Sandy had nothing left at the end of the month. ACW’s assistance helped her cover the gap and stay in her home.

Thank you for your generous support in helping women rediscover their voice and rebuild their lives!
