Thirty-five years ago a group of concerned citizens and County Board members created AHC Inc. – Arlington Housing Corporation – to preserve affordable housing in Arlington County.
Since then we have created or preserved over 2,600 apartments. This October we cut the ribbon on 90 new affordable Metro-accessible apartments one block from the Ballston Corridor. In the next few months we are adding 198 apartments on Columbia Pike to Arlington’s stock of committed affordable housing.
Each time we build an affordable housing community here in Arlington, we are privileged to become a part of someone’s life story.
Henry's story
We became a part of Henry’s story 12 years ago when his single mother moved Henry and his two siblings into an AHC community. By third grade, Henry was part of the daily After-School Program at Virginia Gardens, and later joined our teen tutoring and mentoring program in high school.
Today Henry is a freshman at Northern Virginia Community College, with plans to transfer to one of Virginia’s four-year universities to become an art teacher. In an essay he wrote this summer, Henry says: “I look forward to the future with confidence, largely because of my decision to join an afterschool program when I was eight years old.”
Become a part of someone's life story
Stable, safe and quality housing is the first step in creating a productive and positive life for families, children, and seniors. Your support can help set the stage for a successful life and build a stronger overall community for us all.
AHC's programs for residents, working with more than 30 community partners and 175 volunteers, are making a real difference. Children are graduating from high school, going to college, parents are getting good jobs, and seniors are improving their health.
Please consider supporting AHC's affordable housing and education programs. You, too, can become a part of someone's life story.

Creating More Opportunities in Alexandria
At AHC, our residents are at the heart of everything we do. In addition to continued resources to support housing stability, our Alexandria residents have asked us for:
Social Activities for All Ages: More opportunities to bring the community together through engaging events and activities.
Health and Wellness: Greater access to health services, including fitness programs and health screenings.
Adult Education and Job Training: More support for career development, including job training and educational opportunities.
With your support, we can expand our Resident Services in Alexandria and bring these programs to life!
Help Us Reach our Spring2ACTion Goal!
AHC is transforming lives. As we look to the future, we want to ensure all our neighbors have a place to call home and the resources they need to thrive.
AHC is aiming to raise critical funds to expand our resident services in Alexandria! The first $1,000 will be MATCHED! We need your help to make this goal a reality! Your investment creates pathways to housing stability and personal success—whether in the classroom, the workforce, or beyond.
Thank you! Together, we can drive change and transform lives.
