Women for Afghan Women

Women for Afghan Women’s Virginia Community Center (VACC), located in Alexandria, VA, is a safe and welcoming space where immigrant and refugee women and families can rebuild their lives with dignity and support. Each year, we serve over 1,500 individuals, offering essential services such as case management, pro bono immigration legal support, domestic violence (DV) support, English as a Second Language classes, Women’s Circle group, career readiness and job placement, and mental health counseling.

VACC is the only Afghan-led, culturally specific organization in the region that provides both social services and legal support to Afghan families and survivors of domestic violence. Our team is made up primarily of Afghan women who deeply understand the immigrant and refugee experience, including the unique challenges at the intersection of culture, women’s rights, and domestic violence.

All of our services are provided in Dari and Pashto, Afghanistan’s primary languages, ensuring that our clients can access support without language barriers and feel truly understood every step of the way.

With your support, we can continue helping women and families starting over in Northern Virginia find safety and build a sense of home in their new community.  

• $50 supports one hour of English as Second Language classes, helping women gain confidence, language skills, and independence. 

• $100 funds weekly mental health support groups for Afghan refugee girls, creating a safe space to heal and grow.  

• $150 offers a safe night of emergency shelter for a survivor and their family escaping an abusive situation. 

• $200 helps provide groceries for a family who have lost SNAP benefits due to changes in eligibility. 

• $500 funds legal services to secure work authorization for Afghan refugees and parolees, opening door to employment and stability.
