The Power of WE: Creating Pathways to Employment and Stability

When women thrive, their families thrive.

Founded in 2012, Together We Bake is an empowerment-based workforce training program designed for women in need of a second chance. Our program is centered around a small baking business, through which women actively participate in food production, receive food safety education, and provide customer service. We also teach empowerment and life-skills classes to help women develop self-confidence, healthy coping strategies, and a strong support network as they move toward self-sufficiency.  Each woman graduates job-ready, empowered, and with a nationally recognized SERV Safe certificate, resulting in preferential hiring and higher wages. To date, our program has graduated a total of 311 amazing women!

Help us raise $55,000 this Spring2Action! TWB is raising $55,000 to this year, we have received a matching gift that will double all donations up to $20,000!

Our results have been excellent:

  • 76% completion rate (or even higher, considering some team members leave the program early for employment, education or housing opportunities!).
  • 64% of the women passed the SERV Safe exam, a nationally recognized Food Safety certification course.
  • 57% of graduates are employed within 3 months. Participants form strong bonds with their teammates, resulting in a strong personal and professional network.
  • 7% recidivism rate (compared with the state's average of 40% and the national average of 70%).  70% of TWB team members have a criminal conviction in their past.

"This program taught me the power of what women's togetherness and empowerment can do to those who are affected by COVID, mental health, domestic violence, substance abuse and other health issues. The program makes one feel they are not alone in a sometimes cold and heartless world."

- Sahlem, TWB alumna

TWB creates a community of strong, resilient, employed women who feel connected to their community. TWB not only helps women become self-sufficient and responsible members of society but also helps improve the lives of their children (83% of our graduates are mothers).
