Alexandria Citizens Band

The Alexandria Citizens Band, an all-volunteer community concert band, was founded in 1912 and made our first public appearance in the George Washington Birthday Celebration Parade of 1914.  We have been continuously active ever since, and today we are as vibrant as our hometown of Alexandria.  Our all-volunteer band performs a series of free concerts throughout the year, including our very popular Holiday Sing-Along held in December.

Our mission has remained consistent throughout our 114-year history: to build and strengthen our community through music. It continues now and into the future. We create a welcoming space for diverse volunteer musicians to rehearse together and perform family-friendly music, bringing joy, community and connection to our neighbors. The Alexandria Citizens Band is absolutely committed to continuously improving our capacity to present artistically excellent and innovative music. For well over a century, we have consistently offered our performances across the City of Alexandria, thereby helping to sustain a vibrant, artistic urban environment. We believe passionately in racial and social equity. Our musicians, the music we perform, and our concert venues reflect the great diversity of our community.
