Aaliyah in Action Inc

Aaliyah in Action is a nonprofit organization providing immediate, tangible support to families experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. Founded by Elizabeth O’Donnell after the stillbirth of her daughter, Aaliyah, in 2020, the organization was created to address a critical gap in care: what happens after families leave the hospital and return home without their baby.

Through our Aaliyah in Action Bereavement Support Kits, we provide thoughtfully curated resources that support families in the earliest days of grief. Since launching in July 2021, we have distributed over 3,000 kits to families across the country and partnered with more than 80 hospitals, birth centers and maternal health organizations nationwide.

Alexandria is central to our work! We maintain a strong and growing presence in the Alexandria community, including:

• A hospital partnership with INOVA Alexandria Hospital, ensuring local families receive support during and after loss

• A dedicated warehouse and operations space at Saltbox Alexandria, where volunteers and corporate partners assemble kits

• Community-based fundraising and awareness events hosted throughout Alexandria

• Board members and supporters who live and serve within the Alexandria area

Looking ahead, Aaliyah in Action is expanding beyond direct support to address the broader systems gap in perinatal bereavement care. We are building a virtual resource hub to ensure equitable access to support, and developing provider education and training to improve how hospitals respond to loss.

Every dollar raised through Spring2ACTion directly supports the assembly and distribution of Bereavement Support Kits for families in Alexandria and across the region. Together, we are ensuring that no family has to navigate loss alone.
