My Corner of the Sky
Every Wednesday, I drive 40 minutes through rush hour traffic to sing. That probably tells you everything you need to know.
I'm not a professional musician — I'm someone who dreamed of being a cabaret singer and instead spent 30 years traveling the world improving people's lives. The Alexandria Singers were never part of the plan. And yet they've become essential to it.
That rehearsal room feels like family — a perfect constellation of ages and backgrounds. We sing, dance, and laugh while our Director bounces like a pogo stick, coaxing rhythm and unity out of 90 voices until something remarkable happens: we stop being individuals and become something together. Serious talent surrounds me, but this is a place where belonging doesn't depend on perfection.
There's a line from the musical Pippin that goes: I've gotta be where my spirit can run free — gotta find my corner of the sky. I found mine. It's a Wednesday night rehearsal room in Alexandria, Virginia.
Your gift helps keep that room open — for me, for 90 singers, and for audiences who leave our performances a little more moved than when they arrived. I hope you'll join me in supporting something that matters.
