Shadow Is Worried About Being Forgotten

Shadow is a 7 year old Terrier mix from southern Virginia whose world fell apart the day his owner passed away. He lost the one person he knew, trusted, and loved with the blink of an eye. With no one else able to take him in, Shadow was surrendered to a rural shelter, where everything is unfamiliar and nothing feels safe. He doesn’t understand why his life changed overnight, only that the person he’s been waiting for isn’t coming back. Now he sits in his kennel, looking especially defeated and heartbreakingly sad, watching as families walk by and choose playful puppies, never stopping for him. Day after day, he is overlooked, as if his loyalty and love no longer matter simply because he isn’t young. It’s impossible not to feel the quiet grief he carries. Homeward Trails can’t bear the thought of leaving Shadow behind like this, but they need help to bring him to safety. He has already lost everything he’s ever known. Please don’t let him spend whatever time he has left feeling forgotten.
