Dos de mis mejores amigas, Andrea y Rocío enfrentaron el cáncer de mama… y yo caminé a su lado, viendo de cerca lo duro que es este proceso.

Los diagnósticos, las quimioterapias, los tratamientos… la pérdida del cabello… pero también esa otra pérdida que no siempre se ve: la emocional.

Vi el miedo, la incertidumbre… pero también fui testigo de algo profundamente humano: el amor que las sostuvo, su fe en Dios, la familia, el apoyo emocional, la estabilidad que, de una forma u otra, las ayudó a seguir adelante.

Y no puedo dejar de pensar en tantas mujeres inmigrantes que atraviesan este camino solas… lejos de casa, lejos de su gente, tratando de ser fuertes en medio de todo.

Ahí es donde Nueva Vida se convierte en algo más que una organización. Se convierte en familia. En ese abrazo que llega cuando más lo necesitas, en la guía durante este camino oscuro.

Conozco a Nueva Vida desde hace más de dos décadas… desde sus inicios, cuando una sobreviviente de cáncer, junto a un médico y un grupo de personas, decidió que nadie en nuestra comunidad debía enfrentar esto sola.

Hoy siguen haciendo mucho más de lo que parece posible.

Porque cada aporte… por pequeño que sea… se transforma en esperanza.

Two of my best friends, Andrea and Rocío, faced breast cancer… and I walked by their side, seeing up close how hard this process is.

The diagnoses, the chemotherapy, the treatments… the loss of hair… but also that other loss that isn’t always visible: the emotional one.

I saw the fear, the uncertainty… but I also witnessed something deeply human: the love that held them up, their faith in God, their family, the emotional support, the stability that, in one way or another, helped them move forward.

And I can’t stop thinking about so many immigrant women who go through this journey alone… far from home, far from their people, trying to be strong through it all.

That is where Nueva Vida becomes more than an organization. It becomes family. That embrace that arrives when you need it most, the guidance through this dark journey.

I have known Nueva Vida for more than two decades… since its beginnings, when a cancer survivor, together with a doctor and a group of people, decided that no one in our community should face this alone.

Today they continue to do far more than what seems possible.

Because every contribution… no matter how small… turns into hope.
