Lucas is a two year old Lab/Great Dane mix who lost his family due to no fault of his own. Surrendered by the only home he knew to a rural Virginia shelter, he now sits quietly, watching as unfamiliar faces pass him by, each one a reminder that he was left behind. The confusion in his eyes hasn’t faded. He doesn’t understand how love can simply disappear, how a place that once felt safe is now gone forever. In a shelter where space is limited and time feels uncertain, even a dog as handsome and kind as Lucas can be overlooked, his future hanging by a thread. Homeward Trails wants to step in, to give him the second chance he didn’t choose but so desperately needs, but they can’t reach rescue him without support. Without help, Lucas remains just another brokenhearted dog waiting in silence, hoping someone will see him before it’s too late.
