Taleen's Fundraiser: For the Joy of Singing

I joined the Alexandria Singers at a time when I thought I needed a hobby.  I didn't realize that what I really needed was the healing power of music and singing in community. This is now my 10th year with the Alexandria Singers and how lucky I am to have found my singing home.

I drive 50 minutes each Wednesday night, after a long day, shlepping from Bethesda to Alexandria, with a smile on my face because I know I get to spend the next two hours singing and dancing my heart out.  This is my time to create, to breathe, and let go.  Given all the harsh realities we see in the world around us, singing with joy each week is an act of resistance.  An act of community.  An act of beauty.  And an act of unity.  In a region where people are always moving, always achieving, always on to the next thing, we are a place where voices belong.
