These past few years have been HARD. But every Tuesday, no matter what's going on in the world or in my life, I show up to rehearse with AACC. I always leave feeling better.
WHY?
- Singing stimulates the vagus nerve—the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system—by vibrating the vocal cords and muscles at the back of the throat, activating a "rest and digest" response that lowers stress and heart rate. This action, which often involves deep, paced breathing, boosts vagal tone and promotes feelings of safety.
- Singing in community groups significantly improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and loneliness while increasing social connection, confidence, and positive emotions. Group singing promotes mindfulness and fosters a sense of belonging.
We invite you to be part of that work. Your support helps us keep these programs free, expand opportunities for young singers, and bring the power of harmony to more people across our region.
